The BMW 2002tii, introduced in April 1971, replaced the earlier 2002ti model. It kept the same 1990cc engine (type M15) but upgraded to a Kugelfischer PLO-4 indirect injection system instead of carburettors, increasing its power from 135 HP to 147 HP.
In 1972, some technical improvements were made to the engine and gearbox. By 1974, a luxury "L" trim level was added, making it available across the entire 02 range. The 2002 series ended in June 1975 as it was succeeded by the new BMW 3 Series E21.
